One good home remedy is to keep a headache diary. Many of the tension headaches have triggers, this may include emotional upsets, sleep disturbances, artificial sweeteners, certain foods, drugs, alcohol or some strenous activity.
Record every headache attack, including the time and the date and what are the surrounding physical, psychological and environmental factors that may have contributed to the headache. List all the food and breverages that you have taken for the last 12 hours. Analyze your data and take note for patterns. By identifying the triggers for your tension headache, you may be able to avoid them.
Another home remedy is to use cold compress for tension headache relief. Cold compress has been traditionally used to provide headache relief. You may use the following approach to help you on your headache.
Wet a towel and put it in your freezer until it is cold. Drape it around your head and neck. Do this for 10 to 15 minutes.
